💜 PyOhiothon, Speakers, and Keynotes 💜
Hello PyOhio Community! 👋 It's already May, PyCon US moving into full swing, and we've got a lot going on at PyOhio! Let's go!

PyOhiothon Final Push 🏁
We're in the very last week of our PyOhiothon fundraiser! As of the time of this writing, you've donated a total of $1,320.98, ALL of which has been matched by our individual matching sponsors, for a current grand total of $2,641.96! You are all amazing, and with a final push, we can fully match all $2000 of the individual matching sponsors' pledges! If you're at a local meetup or PyCon, spread the word! We're wrapping up the fundraising campaign on May 19th at 11:59 ET, so try to get those final donations in soon!
We've even got a handy donation QR code for you to share!

Sponsors Needed 🫶
We were able to welcome Six Feet Up as a Bronze Sponsor in the last few weeks, but we still need sponsorship help to make PyOhio the best it can be. Please speak with your employer and see if they are open to sponsorship opportunities! You can review our Sponsorship Prospectus here: https://www.pyohio.org/2026/sponsors/prospectus/
Speakers and Talks Are Live 🎤
Our community provided so many fantastic proposals during our CFP last month that you made it especially hard for our Program team and volunteers to choose (this is a good problem to have of course 😉). Because of everyone's hard work, we now have a full list of talks and speakers to share with you! You can learn more about the talks and speakers here on the PyOhio website.

We've got both newcomers and influential members of the Python community joining us in July so take a look!
Keynote Speakers Announced 🙌
In additional to all our lovely talks for our normal tracks, we've also confirmed our three amazing keynote speakers for PyOhio 2026! We're excited to welcome Carol Willing, Chris Neugebauer, and Dr. Juliana Novic to speak to us in July. All of our keynote speakers are big contributors to the Python community and we're delighted they were able to make time to join us! You can read about all of the things they're involved in here on the PyOhio site: https://www.pyohio.org/2026/program/keynote-speakers/
Registration Opens Soon 🎟️
Now that we've finished up with the CFP we're getting ready to open registration for PyOhio 2026. Stay tuned to our socials to know as soon as it opens, and we'll send out a special email message announcing it as well! Remember, registration for PyOhio is always free, but we'll have an optional form to donate if you'd like to help support us!

Today's Python Tip 💡
Did you know you could use try..except blocks in Python to do conditional imports? This can be especially useful if you're trying to build cross-platform tools or scripts! For example, if your script uses the win32 libraries on Windows, but a different library on MacOS or Linux, you might do something like this:
try:
import win32api
except:
win32api = None
Thank You 🙏
Thank you again for being such a wonderful, supportive community. If you're attending PyCon, travel safely, have fun, and we'll see you in July!
